Dealing with food waste usually means sending it to landfill where it could have been avoided. Storage and handling costs with this process could be reduced, greenhouse gas emissions contained, the nutrients extracted and potentially re-used as fertiliser on land. How? Separation by a centrifuge process makes it possible to manage the solid and liquid fractions individually. Primary separation of the raw food waste reduces storage space and transport costs while increasing the value of the potential product for renewable resource such as animal feed or anaerobic digestion. At SMM, Sven Mario Jadzinski explains the challenges and opportunities of the digitalization and smart connectivity for the marine industry. Therefore, GEA introduced the present achievements by the MTP (Module Type Package) working group for the marine industry. The new GEA marine separators can follow a "plug and produce" approach by using state-of-the-art technology utilizing the GEA IO touch panel control and a simplified connection to a SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).

At AnugaFoodTec, we caught up with GEAs Sarah Meszaros. She introduced the GEA Nozzle Separator KNE 3-06-777. This smaller-sized separator is used by customers for the production of e.g. Greek yogurt, cream cheese, or quark. The biggest advantage of the redesigned Nozzle Separator is that there is no need for adding stabilizers during the production process. Thereby, the product quality increases. With the new GEA Nozzle Separator KNE 3-06-777 there are less spare parts needed and less energy consumed. The separator is part of a skid installation with the capacity of up to 180kg/h.

Efficient crude oil dehydration with GEA centrifuges

Removing water and solids from crude oil with traditional gravity settlers and strainers gets progressively harder as crudes become denser, more viscous, and more laden with solids and salts.

Centrifugal separators spin at high-speed to remove water, salt and solids from oil efficiently and effectively. Due to the high separation efficiency, the centrifuges have no trouble separating the high viscosity oil from the water, even though the API grade of the oil is low.
